If you chose best LED strip light, you need to follow certain rules when connecting and installing such equipment.
First, examine the place where you want to mount the strip.
This will help to determine the future length of the LED strip. The base of the strip is quite flexible itself and is well cut, but it contains LEDs and conductor tracks, so we must remember the cutting ratio of the LED strip. The LED strip usually has a cutting ratio of 3 diodes, depending on the density of the LEDs it can be 5 and 10 cm. In any case, you will not be mistaken, because the place of the cut on any strip is clearly marked. Even in case of a mistake, you lose only one section of 3 LEDs, the rest of the strip will continue to work properly. You can use ordinary scissors to cut the strip.

2. When the length of the strip is known, we can start calculating its total power consumption. To do this, just multiply the power of one meter of strip by the total length, and thus select the appropriate power supply. If you want to control the brightness of the strip, you must also choose a dimmer. And for RGB LED strips, you need a controller that can create dynamic lighting effects. If the maximum available controller power is not enough for your room, the RGB amplifiers(signal amplifiers) are used.
3. The mounting surface must be flat and degreased. After the place is prepared, remove the protective layer from the strip and press the adhesive base to the mounting surface. If during the installation of the LED strip you need to bend the strip, you should remember that the minimum bending radius is about 2 cm. And if you need to separate the strip, better to do this in specially designated places, which we specified above. Then solder the necessary pieces, but without overheating the strip, since semiconductors must avoid overheating.
Regardless of whether you cut the strip or used a solid piece, you have to solder the supply wires. When buying on a strip, there may not be completely contact wires, but even if they are, the quality of the solder and the length of the wires themselves leave much to be desired.
To replace the contact wires, we need a soldering iron, it is better to take a low-power soldering iron of 25-40W so as not to overheat the LED and wires with a cross section of about 0.75 mm, about 20 cm long. As you know, the LED is a semiconductor device, and semiconductors must avoid overheating. If you have a single-color ribbon, it is better to use two wires: black and red with a cross section of 0.75 mm. Different colors of wires are used in order not to confuse the polarity of the connection, red is plus, black is minus. For RGB strips, it is better to take wires of such colors: red, blue, green and, for example, black, so you will not mix up color channels when connected to the controller. Grind the ends of the wires from the side of the strip for a few millimeters, and from the other side to 1 cm, tin them with tin and rosin and you can solder them to the strip, the most imporatnt thing is not to overheat it.
On the opposite ends of the wires it is better to put on the contact lugs. The use of contact lugs improves the quality of the contact in the terminal block of the power supply or control unit. To fix the wire in the lug you need a crimp. This tool is quite specific and is used only by electricians, but without it a quality connection will not work.
Of course, the strip can be mounted in such a way, but it will be slightly wrong, you still need to insulate the soldering place. The best solution would be to use a heat shrink tubing. It is cheap, but gives excellent results. To isolate the soldering spots of the wires, cut a piece a couple of centimeters long and put it on the soldering spot. The whole charm of such a tube is that it “shrinks” during the heating process. To heat the shrink tube, it is better to use a hot air gun with a nozzle that will protect the LED from hot air. If there is no air gun, you can use matches or a lighter for these purposes, but the result will not be the same. As a result, we get reliable insulation from external influences, and besides, we increase the strength of soldering wires.
We do not recommend using electrical tape or other insulating materials if you do not want to remove the strip from narrow niches, for example, under the ceiling and re-insulate it.
LED strip and all its components must not be subjected to mechanical stress.
Connections must not damage or destroy conductor tracks on the circuit board.
Installation and mounting of LED products, as well as power connection must be carried out in compliance with all electrical and safety requirements.
The polarity must be strictly observed when installing. Reverse polarity may cause to malfunction of the product.
Parallel connection is quite a safe way of connection. Serial connection is not recommended. Uneven voltage drops can cause dangerous overloads of electronic components and damage the strip.
Please ensure that the power sources are suitable for the full load of the product. It is unacceptable to use power sources of less power than the total load of the strip.
